How We Farm
When Alice and Trauger arrived here in 1984 they were already accomplished Biodynamic farmers. They lovingly tended this land using the methods described in 1924 by Austrian philosopher and social reformer Rudolf Steiner. Steiner presented a map, of sorts, that guides farmers into new and creative ways of seeing and feeling the farm as a whole. He laid out practices that allow for an ever increasing sensitivity in the relationships between the soil, plants, animals, humans, and the cosmos in which we live. We continue to use these methods to generate fertility, balance growth, and enhance ripening.
We also avoid a great many farming practices that create a certain coarseness in the plants, and have adverse or unknown impacts on human health. We use no pesticides, no herbicides, and no synthetically produced fertilizers. We avoid seeds that have been manipulated in the lab (no GMOs). In fact we prefer seeds that have been selected and harvested here on our farm.
If you have any questions about Biodynamics or our practices we are happy to answer as best we can. Just email Johannes and Lael at info@grohfarm.org
